Experimental Organic Textile Used In High Fashion Project
The Unseen studio’s research and experiments in textiles are the backbone of their couture. By pursuing innovation in the materials used in their projects, as well as design, they are able to realize some of the most unique pieces in high fashion.
Their project, known as “Air”, utilizes reactive ink that changes color upon contact with the wind. The changing color palette of the fabric is reminiscent of prismatic paint schemes that are typically applied to architectural and automotive products.
In addition, this piece utilizes rippled layers of fabric attached to an organic sculpture that is “intended to reveal the otherwise unseen turbulence surrounding the human as it goes about its environment.”
Haute couture pieces are intricate in design and are entirely made by hand. The amount of time going into the production of one piece is invaluable. Like other haute couture, “Air” was not intended to be mass produced, instead it was “exhibited as an interactive performance to coincide with London Fashion week, in the Deadhouse beneath Somerset House together with Hendricks Gin.”
