The Skate-Able Home Of Jordan Hoffart
Professional skateboarder Jordan Hoffart grew up in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, just outside of Vancouver. In 2009, he turned pro, garnering sponsors such as Active Ride Shop, Vox Footwear and Bones Wheels and Bearings. By the age of 23, he moved down to Vista, California where he purchased a foreclosure due to his lack of credit. With the help of a few friends, the home was transformed into a beautiful living space that blends his love for skateboarding, repurposing materials, vintage home decor and Americana.
Concrete and various skateboarding obstacles surround the home. Smooth concrete ramps were built along the bricklaying in the front of the house and a large concrete bowl was built in the backyard. The result is a private skate park with a beautiful view of suburban Vista.
Repurposed wood is used in the forms of a railway tie that serves as a fireplace mantle, a dishwasher enclosure made from the home’s former wooden fence, a cabinet and stove with butcher’s block to serve as countertops, and a wooden pallet that displays Hoffart’s wife’s antique plate collection. These pieces add warmth and comfort that is reminiscent of old Southern houses, something uncommon in California.
The interior of the house was built completely from the ground up. Hoffman went for “eclectic memorabilia” as the overall theme. The house makes use of old chandeliers, farmhouse sinks, claw tubs and even antique wallpaper. The dining room is accented with vintage picture frames with paper mache animals to add to the eccentricity of the home.
Jordan Hoffart’s house demonstrates the creativity and beauty one can achieve without having any background in interior design or architecture. Although the themes may clash, the execution brings everything together with a contemporary sense of southern comfort.
