Illustrator Transforms Classic Movie Posters With Retro Graphic Design

Belgium-born illustrator Laurent Durieux breathes new life into retro graphic design by using striking imagery to captivate a global audience. Becoming popular once again, despite advances in technology, the retro style was originally developed in the 1940s to adhere to the simplicity of the printing machinery available.

Retro Graphic Design by Laurent Durieux Movie Posters

Last year Laurent was commission by legendary poster publisher Mondotees and Dark Hall Mansion to recreate collector’s edition posters for several licensed titles. As previously discussed on our blog, vintage movie posters carried much more significance to the success of the film than today.

His modern take on retro graphic design transports us back to the days when the poster was our first real introduction to the film. While today the focus lies entirely on the trailer, Laurent still believes, “…an image is worth a 1000 words.”
